FAQ's

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How long does registration take?

Kern Valley AYSO has a very efficient registration system. All parts of the registration take place online.

How much does it cost to play soccer?

You will find soccer is one of the most affordable sports anywhere. The only equipment you absolutely need to purchase in order to play is shin guards. Registration fees are set annually to cover the cost of running the Region. AYSO will supply your players with a complete uniform (jersey, shorts and socks), injury insurance for player and volunteer, a positive experience, and several months of soccer playing instruction and fun!

Do you accept credit cards?

Yes we do! With AYSO's new registration system, all payments can be made online by credit card/ debit card/ or pre-paid credit card.

Do you offer financial assistance?

We do offer a limited number of player scholarships each season. Please check with a board member for more details.

What is required to play AYSO soccer?

All you need to play AYSO soccer is a pair of shin guards. We recommend cleats, but cleats are not required. If cleats are worn, they must not have a toe-cleat on them (the little cleat in the front that sticks out). Baseball and football cleats will not work. Your coach will likely encourage you to buy an age appropriate soccer ball as well.

What size ball do I need?

All of the AYSO divisions are broken up into logical names, 6Ufor under 6 players, 8U for under 8 (which includes 6-7 year olds), 10U (8-9 year olds) etc. The type of ball you need depends on the division (the age) of your players. Use the following chart to find the right size for you!

10U, 12USize 4

When can I expect to hear from my coach?

Players should anticipate to hear from their coach near the end of August. In some cases, it may be the first week of September. Dates will depend on the season dates.

When can practices begin?

Practices can begin once the coach contacts you; it will depend on the coach. Practice days and times will be determined by the coach. A schedule will be posted on your team page of this site.

What should I bring to practices?

Players should arrive at least 10 minutes early to practice with proper shin guards, a soccer ball (if you have one), and closed-toe athletic shoes or soccer cleats. In addition, it is extremely important that players bring plenty of water, and sunscreen.

When and where are practices and games held?

Games are held on Saturdays in Mt. Mesa.  Practices are held at locations around the valley depending on the coach's preference.

What do I need to bring to games?

You should be sure your child has their shin guards, footwear, and the uniform they were given (shorts, jersey, socks).  They should also bring plenty of water to drink and any light snacks or lunch they will need.  During cold or wet weather, players can dress appropriately as long as they follow proper protocol and wear it UNDER their uniforms (information will be provided to this as needed).

When should I arrive for games?

Many coaches require players to arrive at different times, but generally, players should arrive no later than 1/2 hour before their scheduled game time to warm up and check in.  Check with your coach for what time your child should be here.

I lost my son's/daughter's shirt/shorts/socks. What do I do?

Players who are playing are required to have the appropriate uniform.  If you lose your socks or shorts, your coach may have extra available or the region may have some.  Players cannot play without their jersey.  There could be extra cost to replace a jersey.
